Driver Education
Among the hazards confronting teenagers today, driving is by far the most critical health and safety concern. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of death among 16 to 20 year olds.
Despite increased awareness on both the use of seat belts and the perils of drinking and driving, motor vehicle-related injuries and deaths among teenagers still go unabated in the U.S. The fatality rate for drivers aged 16-19 is four times that of drivers 25-69. In 2005, nearly 7,500 teenagers were involved in fatal crashes.
Over 3 decades of teaching driver education to New York’s high school students, PAS Auto School found that one of the most effective ways to prevent teen car accidents is through the defensive driving techniques offered by a New York State Certified Driver Education program.
Driver Education programs supplement parents efforts to teach their teenagers “how to drive.” With a 48-hour structured curriculum, the program is designed to teach teenagers how to become safe and responsible drivers.
